In less than a decade the Lower East Side has become a very "cool" scene, where art galleries, very good restaurants, clubs, and boutiques mingle with the old tenement neighborhood of the immigrant Jews and Latinos. The Lower East Side Tenement Museum commemorates this immigrant past.  (One-hour guided tours of the museum's fascinating tenement building can be arranged.)

The interesting mix of stops includes tastings as diverse as kosher pickles, homemade gelato, an old-fashioned candy store, bialys, and doughnuts to die for.

And as for dining, Clinton Street has become the Restaurant Row of the Lower East Side, and offers a myriad of choices for lunch and dinner.  It's come a long way from Katz' Deli (which is still a worthwhile destination).

**Can also be combined with the Little Italy Tour**
