Famous for its tree-lined cobblestone streets, historic buildings and creative Bohemian residents, Greenwich Village is also a wonderful area for a food-centered walking tour.

South of Washington Square Park, the Village is still steeped in its ethnic Italian  origins although the peak was at the beginning of the century.  The area around Bleecker Street remains the heart of this neighborhood.

Our tour begins at a charming Italian caffe where we absorb the atmosphere over a cappuccino.   Then we'll stroll through the charming West Village.  Stops include the smallest house in Manhattan, homes of famous writers, a historic theater, a hidden private courtyard, and a Prohibition-era speakeasy.  Nearby is lattaccini where we will taste the best freshly made mozzarella this side of Naples.

Walking down Bleecker Street, we make several stops at Italian food stores which are still thriving after all these years. We'll enjoy a tasting in a famous cheese store, sample one of the best pizzas in New York, and visit an olive oil store, a gourmet market, a butcher, a pork store, and an Italian bakery.

Time for a lunch break and what a lunch!    It has been especially prepared for us at the best trattoria in the area.
