This Brooklyn neighborhood
between the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges ("Down
Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass"; no flying
elephants!) offers the perfect blend of cutting-edge art and food.
DUMBO is rapidly transforming from warehouses
to one of New York's trendiest neighborhoods with artists’
studios, galleries, chic stores and upscale residential
buildings. Its proximity to
the water offers spectacular views of Lower Manhattan and the Manhattan
and Brooklyn Bridges.
We meet for brunch at one of the
best and loveliest restaurants in the area. Dessert follows at the
Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory at historic Fulton Landing, providing us with
incredible views of Lower Manhattan. Then chocolate truffles and rich hot chocolate await us
as our tour begins at Jacques Torres, world-renowned chocolate maker.
Through a glass wall looking out
into the production facility, you can almost picture Lucy and Ethel trying to
keep up with the conveyer belt!
The next portion of the tour
takes us to various galleries (including the d.u.m.b.o. Arts Center and
the Empire-Fulton State Park outdoors sculpture expo) exhibiting works
of local and (yet) undiscovered artists.
Our most photogenic tour, DUMBO
has stunning views, so don't forget your camera!
This tour is
offered only on Saturday and Sunday, from 12 noon to 4PM.
