Settled in the latter part of the 19th century by Southern Italian laborers, today the Arthur  Avenue neighborhood is filled with butcher shops, sausage makers, cheese makers, seafood markets, bakeries with 19th century ovens, pasta stores, restaurants and produce markets.  Generations of Italians still live, work and shop in this vital neighborhood; Italian is the daily language of trade, and the shop owners and their patrons interact as friends and members of their community.

On this tour, Savory Sojourns will introduce you to the people and places, sights and sounds that make Arthur Avenue so very special.  We'll stop at bread bakeries, seafood markets, salumerias, pasta stores, homemade cheese stores, and the fabulous indoor market where vendors sell the best in Italian-style produce, meats and more, at great prices.

Lunch will be served at a warm home-cooking style trattoria known for its pasta dishes and superb desserts, where we will be treated 'like family'.
