Addie
Tomei was destined to work in the food business. Born in Brooklyn of Italian heritage,
Addies childhood centered around food and la tavola, (the table). With a Sicilian
mother and a Tuscan father, it was only natural that Addie became enamored with the
vibrancy of Italian cooking -- Southern and Northern.
It
was not until after college and marriage that she unleashed her own culinary skills. Soon,
Addie, with an appreciative husband who possessed an equally adventurous palate,
began venturing beyond Italian meals -- Asian, French and other European traditions
and hybrid cuisines.
On
retiring from teaching English in junior high school, she knew that her next career would
include her passion for food and love of New York City. It seemed only natural for this
Greenwich Villager to create Savory Sojourns, which utilizes her natural affinity for
entertaining and showing off her city.
For years, visiting family, friends and
acquaintances from New York City and beyond would beg Addie to share her impressive
knowledge of what to eat and where to eat it. Among them were even the glitterati
of her
Oscar-winning daughter, actress Marisa Tomei. From restaurants to gourmet markets to
greenmarkets and patisseries, she knew them all.
